Services We Offer

Fireplace, Gas Insert, and Stove installation-
We install all fireplaces that we sell.  You are not responsible for any of the installation, we take care of all of it for you.  We take care of pulling the permits for the gas line installation and the electrical installation.  We then take care of getting the permits and inspections closed out for you as well.
If you purchase a wood burning fireplace the installation is also done by us.  We run the new liner and install the insert or fireplace according to the requirements of the installation manual.
We make this an easy process from beginning to end.  All that is required from you is the date that works best for you and your schedule.  All installations take between 2 and 4 hours depending upon the fireplace that you choose.

Chimney Cleaning and Inspection-

The cleaning of your chimney will be done from inside your home most of the time.  We will start by laying out protective coverings 5 feet out and around your fireplace opening.  We will then get our equipment which includes a HEPA filtered vacuum to ensure that we do not allow for any dust or creosote to come into the home.  From there we fully clean the interior of the chimney from the firebox, smoke chamber, smoke shelf, and flue liner.  After we have thoroughly cleaned the interior of the chimney we run a closed circuit camera to ensure that the interior of the chimney is free of defects.  From here we proceed to the external inspection of your chimney.  We are looking for any concerns with exterior brick, your wash or chase pan cover.  We then conclude by going over all of our findings with you and make any recommendations that may be necessary.

Chimney Leaks/Water Intrusion-

At Custom Chimney Care we believe in using preventative measures to avoid costly repairs.  We use Saver Systems Water Repellant which comes with a seven year warranty.  We also use Saver Systems Crown Coat to prevent water intrusion through the top or wash of the chimney.  In some instances water intrusion is coming through the flashing area of the chimney.  Saver Systems has a product we use for that as well called Flash Seal.  All of Saver Systems products come with a warranty and will prevent water intrusion and deterioration.
Why use water repellant?
With the average home in the Twin Cities being over 30 + years old, water issues are becoming more and more common with chimneys.  This is due to the fact that most of the brick is becoming water logged due to our rapid change in seasons from fall to winter and winter to spring.
Brick is porous.  It is like a hard sponge that can take water in and can also expel the water it the temperatures are warm enough.  The issue here is that we get heavy rains in the fall and really cold to freezing temperatures over night.  This traps the water in the brick and then once it freezes it expands and causes the brick to spall.  Spall means that the faces of the brick pop off.  If you are noticing that you have pieces of brick on the roof you should have your chimney top inspected to see if water protection is still an option or if rebuilding is required.

Minor repairs-
Our main goal is to help you prevent major repair work on your chimney such as brick work and chimney rebuilding.  We realize though that minor repairs are going to be needed over time as most fireplaces are masonry and will eventually show signs of aging.  Here are some of the small repairs that we offer.

Flue repair-
When doing flue tile repair work we use a product called Heat Shield Cerfractory.  Heat Shield is a product that is applied to the interior of the flue tile liner.  It is a refractory mortar that is designed to seal the interior and prevent heat from penetrating into the interior of the chimney.

Smoke Chamber Repair-
Your smoke chamber is designed to help funnel the smoke up and out of your chimney.  If it is not smooth and coned, it causes turbulence which creates longer residence time for smoke and a larger creosote deposit in the chimney system.  This can lead to chimney fires.  When we see poorly designed smoke chambers we recommend that they be recoated and smoothed.

Replacement doors/Rain Covers-
We can replace your old doors with new doors.  We offer a variety of different styles.  We can also help you with rain covers, top mounted dampers, animal screens, and any other accessory that you may be interested in.
